Pieces of artwork can be for a multitude of purposes. This render I designed for someone other than myself. And although I was more of a novice at the time, I learned that graphics are more enjoyable to create when describing people rather than worldly objects. An extra challenge arrises when you attempt to take one or more aspects of someone to wrap an image around. Today I look back on this graphic and ponder how it would have changed if I started it right now, because to me this render is worth a lot more than just 1000 words.

Up until this project, I began to notice a trend with my previous works. A fair amount of my scenes contained many objects and were sometimes a bit overwhelming to look at. So I decided to create something that was simple to look at but yet had a complexity to it that made it enjoyable to develop. So, with inspiration from The Lord of the Rings, I produced this piece of jewelry that fit my criteria.

This render was just fun to make. I wanted to learn how to create something that took knowledge of how to design a fluid simulation. I eventually found help from a tutorial composed by Andrew Price. To get the splash effect, I ended up taking a cube and smashing it into the coffee. Ironically, I abhor the taste and smell of coffee, but in this image I could deal with my appraisal.

If I were to pick a masterpiece from all of my work, it would be this piece. One day I was tired of walking through the park so I simply sat down on a bench which inspired this project. I would also say this piece defines me. Originally I wanted this to be a warm spring-looking day with lush grass and a nice sunset. However after many weeks of production I found my computer was nowhere near powerful enough to render the grass and leaf textures. So I gave up. It wasn't until I walked by the same bench in the winter that it hit me; never give up. (click to enlarge)

Stained Glass was one of the biggest project that I have ever completed... that we have ever completed. With a team of about 20 people, a 40 page script, and a year in production, the scale blew my mind. I was still in high school when we began, and it wasn't until halfway through my first year of college that the film was actually completed. My responsibilities involved creating any CGI graphics that were needed along with designing the cinematography, color correction, and editing. Working on this movie was one of the best experiences I have ever had and it was amazing to see the dedication that some people have towards their passions. The film is available upon request and the trailer can be viewed by clicking the mouse.

This render I made for my mentor and friend. She has done so much for me that I just had to create something that fit both her personality and work efforts. I have learned so much working for her not only as a software engineer, but as a person.

This past year I had the wonderful privilege of working with an international animation team. What really caught my eye about the project was that a group of people could work together to create something special even from being separated by tens of thousands of miles. With artists hailing from places such as South Africa, Ethiopia, Venezuela, and Spain, it is a great honor to be apart of such a talented group of people. I was responsible for the programming/technical support as well as setting up and managing an 80 node renderfarm I built from a high school's computer lab. With the success of Stained Glass (see below), a few of us had so much fun making a movie that we were crazy enough to start a second. But this time we learned from all of our previous mistakes. We found real actors, real film equipment, real props, and most importantly a real workflow. We decided to keep it simple by using a 16 page script and only one location. Therefore we were able to film all the scenes in about a week. I am the producer and one of the editors for the film. My responsibilities include managing the team as well as working with the director to make decisions about the film. Dereliction is currently in post-production and will be viewable soon.
